Kamala Varadaraja Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Arasar Koil Village in Madurantakam Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kamala Varadaraja Perumal and Mother is called as Sundara Mahalakshmi. The temple is famously called as Sundara Maha Lakshmi Temple. This temple is said to be older than the Kancheepuram Varadaraja temple. The temple is considered as Shukra Parihara Sthalam. The temple is situated on the southern banks of Palar river.

History

The temple was believed to be built by Cholas in 12th century and received extensive patronage from Pandyas and Vijayanagara Kings. The Temple was in dilapidated condition in 14th century and was renovated by the Sambuvarayar King Rajanarayana Sambuvarayar III. The Temple was renovated in 2006 CE by the noble efforts of Sadguru Venkataraman. There are several inscriptions found on the walls of the temple. Inscriptions are dated to the reigns of Rajaraja Chola III (1216-1246 CE), Jadavarman Sundara Pandyan (1259 CE), Sundara Pandyan II (1291 CE), Rajanarayana Sambuvarayar III (1352 CE) and latter Vijayanagara Kings. The inscriptions records the gifts and grants made for burning  perpetual lamps & poojas and taxes levied for the maintenance of the temple. Lord Vishnu was called as Tiruvarasur Emberuman as per the inscriptions.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 07.30 AM to 12.00 Noon and 04.00 PM to 07.30 PM.

Festivals

Chitra Pournami is celebrated in this temple with much fanfare. During Chitra Pournami, Lord Kamala Varadaraja Perumal along with his consorts Sridevi & Bhoodevi visits Esoor for Theerthavari on the banks of the Palar river in Esoor. Thirumanjanam is performed to Perumal at the river bank. Varalakshmi Vrata days, Akshaya Tritiya, Aadi and Thai Fridays are considered very special here.

Prayers

Devotees worship Mother Sundara Mahalakshmi on Varalakshmi Vrata days and Fridays especially during Sukra Hora for wealth. People pray to Mother Sundara Mahalakshmi for relief from poverty, debts, losses in business, court cases and other litigation problems. Devotees also worships Gomukh considering as Kubera Gomukh by applying turmeric paste and Kungumam. The number six belongs to Shukra and Mother Sundara Maha Lakshmi has six toes. Hence, this temple is considered as Shukra Parihara Sthalam.

The Temple is located at 200 metres from Arasar Koil Bus Stop, 2 Kms from Pulipurakoil, 4 Kms from Padalam, 4 Kms from Padalam Railway Station, 14 Kms from Madurantakam, 14 Kms from Madurantakam Railway Station, 20 Kms from Chengalpattu, 22 Kms from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, 60 Kms from Chennai Airport and 81 Kms from Chennai. Devotees travelling on GST road from Chennai need to take a left turn at Padalam Koot Road after Chengalpattu and travel for 7.5 Kms to reach this temple.
