Thyagaraja Temple, Thiruvottriyur – Mother Shrine

Thyagaraja Temple, Thiruvottriyur – Mother Shrine
The name of the goddess at this temple is Vadivudaiamman alias Tripurasundari. The goddess is housed in a separate shrine inside the Temple complex. The shrine of the Devi Vadivudai Amman is situated near the entrance with an attached stone pillar Mandapam. At the sanctum is the beautiful image of the Devi Vadivudai Amman in standing posture facing the Southern direction. Vadivudai Amman, is very powerful, and she is one of the three main goddesses of Chennai region.
It is one of the three important Sakthi Sthalams in the city. The other two are, Kodiyidai Amman in Tirumullaivayil and Tiruvudai Amman in Melur. On a full moon day, devotees throng to having darshan at all these three temples. Firstly, they have the morning darshan of Icha Sakthi at Melur, another Gnana Sakthi in the afternoon at Thiruvottriyur and the third Kriya Sakthi in the evening at Tirumullaivayil to complete the Sakthi Darshan.
Of the 51 Shakti Peetas, this peeta is praised as Ikshi Peeta. Sri Chakra is installed below the idol. Only Namboodris of Kerala are performing the puja in this shrine. Pushpanjali Seva is dedicated to Mother at 9.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. each day with fragrant flowers. People whose marriages are delayed pray here and contribute for this Alankara.  This is known as Wedding Pushpanjali.
