Thyagaraja Temple, Thiruvarur –Nilothpalambal Shrine

Thyagaraja Temple, Thiruvarur –Nilothpalambal Shrine
Inside the main temple there is a separate shrine for the two handed Goddess Nilothpalambal who is Parvathi or Aadi Parasakthi in the southwest corner of the inner prakara. An interesting feature can be seen next to the Goddess. An assistant can be spotted carrying the goddesses and Shiva’s son Subramanya (Karthikeya, Muruga) on her shoulder. The Goddess is shown touching the head of her son. The Ganapathy in this prakaram is the oldest sculpture here and is called Vataapi Ganapathy. Muthuswamy Dikshitar composed his krithi Vataapi ganapathim bhaje on this deity only.
