Anjel Perumal Temple, Agaram, Thirunelveli
Anjel
Perumal Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu located at Agaram Village in
Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. This is the only temple in India with all
the Dasavatharam idols in one single stone. It is the Parihara Sthalam for
different kinds of Dosham including Pitru Dosham. This Temple is located at
about 12 Kms East of Thirunelveli off the Tuticorin highway on the banks of
Tamaraibarani. Theertham of this Temple is Shambu Theertham.

The
Temple
Presiding
deity Shri Anjel Perumal graces facing east. Procession deity graces with his
consorts Sri Devi and Sri Bhoodevi. The greatness of the temple is in the
single stone sculpture depicting the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. There are
also separate shrines for Ganapathy, Venugopalan-Sathyabama, Vishwaksenar,
Dharma Sastha and Garudazhwar. The Temple is built according to Vaikasana
agama. The temple was devastated by floods in 1923. Kumbabishekam was performed
in 1952.
A large
part of the temple was destroyed by floods in the Tamaraibarani in the early
part of the 20th century. However, the Dasavatharam idols have
remained intact. In 1952, Muthuswamy Sastri is said to have spent Rs.50000 for
Kumbabishekam of the Moolavar deity. In 2003, a Dasavathara Kainkarya Committee
was formed to undertake complete renovation of the temple, including building
walls around the temple and a parikara mandapam. The committee performed the Kumbabishekam
in July 2009.

temple is open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Festivals
Vaikunda
Ekadasi in December-January is celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
Prayers
are for removal of obstacles in marriage talks, for child boon and distinction
in education. Devotees perform Tirumanjanam and offer vastras to Perumal.

Connectivity
This
Temple is located at about 12 Kms East of Thirunelveli off the Tuticorin
highway on the banks of Tamaraibarani, 171 Kms from Madurai and 2 Kms from
Vallanadu. There are buses every 5-10minutes between Thirunelveli and
Tuticorin. One can reach Vallanadu within 30 minutes from
Thirunelveli. One can take an auto from Vallanadu bus stop to the Dasavatharam
Koil in Agaram Village. Nearest Railway Station is located at Thirunelveli. Nearest
Airport is located at Madurai.
