Krupakupareswarar Temple, Komal, Mayiladuthurai

Krupakupareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Komal Village in Kuthalam Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Krupakupareswarar and Mother is called as Annapoorani. This Temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for  Hastha starrers. The Temple is situated on southern banks of Veera Cholan River.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found immediately after the entrance arch, facing towards the sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antrala and maha mandapam. The maha mandapam is designed to look like the forehead of a bat (Vovval Nethi Mandapam). Presiding Deity is called as Krupakupareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy (self-manifested).

Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Annapoorani. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in maha mandapam to the left side of the sanctum. Shrines of Vinayaka, Murugan, Vishnu, Maha Lakshmi, Kasi Viswanathar, Navagrahas, Surya and Bhairavar can be seen in the temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Vilwa Tree.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 7.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and from 5.30 PM to 7.30 PM.

Festivals

Masi Mahashivaratri (Feb-Mar), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) and Tirukarthikai (Nov-Dec) are the festivals celebrated in the temple. Mondays and Wednesdays are considered special in addition to the addition to Hastham star day.

Prayers

Those who are born in Hastha star days are advised to worship Lord Shiva at this temple for relief from doshas from adverse planetary effects and for betterment of their lives. It is also believed that great saints and siddhas are worshipping in this temple in aroopa form (invisible form) on Hastha star days. Hence, Hastha starrers are advised to pray on this day for blessings. Those with confused minds and aspiring for a peaceful life may pray here on Mondays and Wednesdays. People pray here for happy married life, child boon and excellence in education. Devotees come to the temple with a cow and calf and go around the temple seeking response to their prayers.

The Temple is located at about 10 Kms from Kuthalam, 10 Kms from Kuthalam Railway Station, 14 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Bus Stand, 15 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Junction Railway Station, 16 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 27 Kms from Kumbakonam and 118 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated at about 8 Kms from the branch road in Kuttalam on the Kumbakonam – Mayiladuthurai route. Bus and auto facilities are available from Kuttalam.
