Loganatha Perumal Temple, Thirukannangudi, Nagapattinam

Loganatha Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Thirukannangudi Village in Kilvelur Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Loganatha Perumal / Shyamala Meni Perumal and Mother is called as Loganayagi. This temple is considered as one of the Pancha Kanna (Krishnaranya) Kshetrams. This Temple is also considered as one of the Pancha Narayana Kshetrams in this region. The temple is revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the 7th – 9th century Vaishnava canon, by Thirumangai Alwar in 10 hymns. Hence, the temple is classified as a Divya Desam, one of the 108 Vishnu temples that are mentioned in the book.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east with five tiered rajagopuram. There is an entrance arch in front of the rajagopuram. The entrance arch has stucco images of Lord Vishnu with his consorts Sridevi & Bhoodevi. Balipeedam, Dhwaja Sthambam and Garuda can be seen immediately after the rajagopuram, facing towards sanctum. Normally, Garuda is seen with folded hands, but here he is seen with his hands around his body.


The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam, maha mandapam, shobana mandapam and bhakta ula mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Loganatha Perumal / Shyamala Meni Perumal and is facing east. He is enshrined in the sanctum along with his consorts Sridevi & Bhoodevi in standing posture. Utsava Idol is Damodara Narayana Perumal. The vimana over the sanctum is called as Utpala Vimanam. Mother is called as Loganayagi.


She is housed in a separate east facing shrine in the outer prakaram. Utsava Idol is Aravinda Valli. The presiding deity and Utsava idol are similar in appearance. It is unique feature not to be seen in any other temples. Shrines of Vijaya Anjaneyar, Vishwakasena, Manavala Mamunigal, Thirumangai Azhwar, Azhwars, Ramanuja and Rama can be seen in the temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Magizha Tree (Vagula Tree). Theertham associated with this temple is Sravana Pushkarini. It is situated in front of the temple.


Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 8.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and 05.00 PM to 09.00 PM.

Festivals

Chithirai Utsavam (Apr-May), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Margazhi Vaikunta Ekadasi (Dec-Jan) and Masi Magam (Feb-Mar) are the festivals celebrated in this temple with much fanfare. Lord goes on procession to the seashore on Masi Magam.

The temple is considered as the Nakshatra temple for Anusham starrers. Devotees offer milk porridge to Lord  Loganatha Perumal and pray for the child boon.

This Temple is located at about 2.5 Kms from Kizhvelur Railway Station, 4 Kms from Kizhvelur, 6 Kms from Sikkal, 12 Kms from Nagapattinam, 18 Kms from Thiruvarur and 138 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is located at about 4 Kms from Kizhvelur on the Nagapattinam to Thiruvarur route. Mini Buses ply from Kizhvelur to this temple regularly.
