Thirukkarai Eswarar Temple, Manampathi, Chengalpattu

Thirukkarai Eswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Manampathi Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Thirukkarai Eswarar and Mother is called as Pathalambikai. The Temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for Raghu and Ketu Doshas.



Legends

As per legend, Lord Shiva and his consort Parvathy came here for enacting his Thiruvilayadal (holy play). As Vanavan (Lord Shiva) came along with his consort Maadevi (Mother Parvathy), the place came to be called as Vanavan Maadevi and later got corrupted to Manampathi.



History

The temple is believed to be built in 10th century CE by Cholas and was extensively renovated by Vijayanagara Kings and Nayak rulers. The place was called as Vanavan Mahadevi Chaturvedimangalam during Chola period.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 08.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 04.30 PM to 08.00 PM.

Prayers

Devotees pray here to get cure from speech disabilities and throat & thyroid problems. The Temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for Raghu and Ketu Doshas. Those who born in Kanni Rasi worship here for relief for doshas.

The Temple is located at about 200 meters from Manampathi Bus Stop, 9 Kms from Thirukazhukundram, 12 Kms from Thiruporur, 14 Kms from Mamallapuram, 17 Kms from Chengalpattu, 19 Kms from Chengalpattu Railway Station, 47 Kms from Chennai Airport and 57 Kms from Chennai. Manampathi / Acharavakkam is situated on Thiruporur – Thirukazhukundram Road. Buses are available from Thiruporur, Chengalpattu, Velachery and Thiruvanmiyur to reach this temple.
