Melakkoil Cave Temple, Kudumiyanmalai, Pudukottai

Melakkoil Cave Temple is a rock cut cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Kudumiyamalai Village in Illupur Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu, India. This cave temple is called as Melakkoil / Thirumetrali. The rock cut cave temple complex consists of a rock cut cave shrine with structural mandapas in the front and two structural shrines. The rock cut cave temple is excavated on the eastern slope of low rising hillock. This cave temple is the oldest temple among the shrines in the Shikanathar Temple Complex. The cave temple is under the control of Archaeological Survey of India.

The temple complex is located at about 8 Kms from Kaladipatti Chathiram, 15 Kms from Illupur, 18 Kms from Pudukkottai, 20 Kms from Pudukottai Bus Stand, 21 Kms from Pudukottai Railway Station, 24 Kms from Ponnamaravathi, 28 Kms from Thirumayam, 29 Kms from Kodumbalur, 30 Kms from Viralimalai, 37 Kms from Manapparai and 49 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated at about 8 Kms from Kaladipatti Chathiram on the Pudukottai to Viralimalai route. Kudumiyanmalai is situated on the bus route from Pudukottai to Manapparai.
