Meenakshi Amman Temple – Musical Pillars

Meenakshi Amman Temple – Musical Pillars
One of the most interesting and exciting structures here is the music pillars. There are five pillars and each of them has been carved out from a single stone. These pillars have been carved so carefully that when struck each of them, they produce incredibly unique sounds that are heavenly music for the ears of the visitors standing there.

Beyond the North Tower there are five Musical pillars each consisting of 22 smaller pillars carved out of a single stone, and producing musical tunes when tapped. Each pillar has been carved out of a single stone. Each has little pillars, chiseled exquisitely. Each of these little pillars produces characteristic sound which struck. Hence these are called Musical Pillars; such pillars are seen in the Thousand Pillar Mandapam also.
