Pambar Falls (also called Liril or Vatakanal) is located at a distance of 3 kms from Kodaikanal Bus Station. This magnificent falls is also popularly called as the 'Grand Cascade'. The town water reservoir overflows southwards forming the Fairy Falls which continues to join the Vaigai River forming the Pambar Falls through its course. Pambar Falls (also called Liril or Vatakanal) at, elevation 2,120 metres (6,960 ft), is 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) SE from Kodaikanal.




It can be reached by a steep, slippery path behind Pambar house. Racing down Pambar Ravine is the zigzagging Levinge stream that cascades over a series of rock formations. The Pambar Ravine showers down the Waterfall and a series of steep and precariously slippery rocks during its meandering course.




There is a pond like formation at the foot suitable for bathing. Three or four adjacent small cascading falls can be seen as you go downstream. The wild vicinity of the falls flourishes in rare flora and fauna. Endemic birds and butterflies create a center of attention to this soothing spot.



The Pambar Falls is meandering lively stream dropping over a chain of rock. The unvaryingly cut step-like rock formations give bonus beauty to the cascading effect of the plain waters.
The elegant step-like rock cuts, add to the beauty of the plane water cascading down. At the foot of the falls, a pond like water body is the added attraction of the spot, where the visitors enjoy bathing in the fresh waters.






One can take photographs of the scenic beauty of the waterfall and the area surrounding it. Pambar Falls have also been nicknamed ‘Liril Falls’ after the soap advertisement shot at the cascade in the year 1985. The nearest airport to the falls is at Madurai, at a distance of 80 kilometers from the falls. Kodaikanal is the closest rail head to the falls.
Thanks to the chain of rock formations, Pambar Falls tumbles down in foamy glory forming a pool at the bottom where you can take a dip if you like. But do be careful because the rocks can be quite slippery. From Pambar Falls, you can enjoy some marvelous views.  The wooded mountains, the jagged cliffs and the swirling mist add an air of mystery and beauty to the vicinity. And, the wilderness around abounds in unusual flora and fauna. Colorful butterflies flit around and you can spot many birds too. A perfect setting for a picnic in enchanting surroundings!

This Falls is ideal to visit during rainy season to enjoy the beauty of the falls to its extensiveness. The approach path to this falls is a craggy hill path and hence appropriate means of transport is essential to reach the falls.
This is a high place for hiking a trekking and one has to cross a craggy trek to reach here. The forest that surrounds this falls is home to numerous plants and animals so it would be a great place to visit for the wildlife enthusiasts. The volume of water will be great during the monsoons.
